Disclaimer¶
This notice complements the Apache License 2.0 under which Fairmark is distributed. It does not replace it: where the two differ, the license prevails.
Intended purpose¶
Fairmark is open-source software that computes valuation methods with deterministic, rule-based calculations, specified in public documents and verified against test cases from independent sources. It is published to improve the accuracy of AI agents and analysts in financial analysis, by replacing figures estimated by a language model with exact, reproducible and documented calculations.
Fairmark is a calculation tool. It is not an advisor: it does not decide and it does not recommend.
Decisions belong to the user¶
Every decision taken with the help of Fairmark, and every use of its results, belongs exclusively to the person or organisation that uses it (the user), who is solely responsible for it. In particular, the user:
- decides whether Fairmark, and a given method, are suited to their purpose;
- chooses the method, the conventions and the inputs, directly or through an AI agent;
- verifies every result and its
explainoutput, under the oversight of a person with the competence and the authority to assess it, before relying on it; - remains responsible for complying with the professional standards, regulations and laws that apply to their activity.
No result of Fairmark can be attributed to the tool, to its authors, to its contributors or to its maintainers as a decision, an opinion or a recommendation.
AI agents¶
When an AI agent calls Fairmark, the agent, and whoever operates it, chooses the method and the inputs. An agent can choose the wrong method, extract wrong figures or misreport a result. Fairmark computes only what it receives. Every result states the method, its version and the conventions it used, every calculation step with the values substituted, and a fingerprint (hash) of the inputs, so that a person can check it.
Not advice¶
Fairmark, its documentation, its examples and its maintainers do not provide investment, financial, accounting, tax, legal or valuation advice, and make no recommendation about any company, asset, security or transaction. A result is the arithmetic consequence of the method, the conventions and the inputs chosen by the user. A valuation used in a transaction, in financial statements or other accounting documents, in judicial, arbitral or administrative proceedings, or in a regulated process requires the judgment of a qualified professional.
No warranty¶
Fairmark is provided "AS IS", without warranties or conditions of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose (Apache License 2.0, section 7). Methods, conventions, examples and documentation may contain errors, omissions or simplifications, and may change between versions.
Limitation of liability¶
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the authors, contributors and maintainers of Fairmark are not liable for any damages of any kind, direct or indirect, including loss of profits, data or business opportunities, arising from the use of Fairmark, from the inability to use it, or from reliance on its results (Apache License 2.0, section 8).
No professional relationship¶
Using Fairmark, opening an issue, taking part in a discussion or receiving an answer from a maintainer creates no professional, advisory or contractual relationship.
